Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic Retinopathy

It is a diabetes complication with prolonged high blood sugar levels. This causes blood vessels in the retina or retina to be damaged by clogged sugars and blood unable to flow normally.  Initial symptoms may not experience symptoms or may have mild vision, but severe symptoms left untreated may eventually lead to vision loss.

Causes of diabetic retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is caused by prolonged elevated blood sugar levels, resulting in blockages of the capillaries that nourish the retina. It causes new blood vessels to replace damaged old blood vessels, but these new blood vessels are not properly developed, allowing blood or other fluid to leak into the retina.
